Alamo Library

Half way through the year!

The school year is hitting its halfway point already! There has been some changes in the Library, with the biggest one being the new Librarian. Stop by the Library and introduce yourself, she is always happy to meet the parents of our wonderful students at Alamo!

She has been weeding our Non-Fiction section to eliminate books published before 1990, as well as the books that have seen better days, outdated, and/or have no place in an elementary library. There have been some interesting finds along the way. She is about halfway through, putting her at being finished by the end of the school year!

Novel Knowledge is upon us for those students in 4th-6th grades that have signed up. Novel Knowledge is a reading competition throughout the District. The District chooses 8 books in the AR range of 4.0 - 6.9 for the students to read. The 4th-6th grade students interested must get a permission slip signed by their parent and teacher, then form a team with a few friends. Each team of 3-4 students must come up with their own team name and decide amongst themselves who is going to read which books between the end of December and the beginning of March. In Mid-March the teams at each school then get together to test their knowledge of those 8 books. There are 3 rounds of tests to ultimately determine an overall winning team at each school. The winning teams then move on to the District compitition where one school walks away with the trophy. This year the books are...

The Running Dream by Wendelin Van Draanen
